Ledges State park
is located along the Des Moines river just northwest of Des Moines. For detailed information on this campsite, such as reservations, go to the link below. http://www.iowadnr.gov/parks/state_park_list/ledges.html
This place is spectacular, especially if you are the active camper. Trails after trails and beautiful scenery. What makes The Ledges standout, is the terrain. Nice cliffs of rocks with trails throughout, a stream that criss crosses all the way down the ledges and over the road in several places. The Ledges is very kid freindly because of all the water and family hikes. There are also plenty of areas, besides the campgrounds, for families to get together (shelters) and grill, all along The ledges.
The campground is decent, with plenty of shade. There are plenty of campsites, playgrounds and restroom facilities. As expected, in my opinion, the campground is not as nice as a Corp of Engineers campground, but overall it is well taken care of.
